Muller Breaks Silence on Man Utd Transfer Speculation

Thomas Muller opens up on Man Utd transfer link image

Thomas Muller has addressed a longstanding speculation in football: a transfer to Manchester United.

As the Bayern Munich stalwart looks ahead to life beyond the Bundesliga, he has emphasized that Old Trafford won’t be his next destination.

Muller, set to depart Bayern after this summer’s Club World Cup, shared his thoughts on the possibility of playing in the Premier League.

The 35-year-old acknowledged that he has considered joining United “many times” throughout his career. However, when queried about the attraction of such a move today, he was candid.

“Now? No, no. I’m not the right fit for them, and they’re not the right fit for me,” Muller stated in an interview with CBS Sports. “It wouldn’t be enjoyable for either side, so it’s simply not a good match.”

After nearly 20 years with Bayern’s first team and an impressive collection of 33 major titles, Muller has an expansive career, yet is open to new possibilities.

A move to Major League Soccer appears more plausible, while supporters of United can only speculate on what might have occurred had Louis van Gaal successfully brought him to the club in 2015.

Why Thomas Muller declined a move to Manchester United?

Muller’s insights shed light on the current situation at Manchester United. Once a premier choice for players, the club has faced challenges in maintaining consistent direction in recent years.

His assertion of “not a match” reflects more about the state of the Red Devils than about himself.

He didn’t dismiss previous aspirations, admitting, “Sure, I considered it. There were points when I thought experiencing it would be enjoyable.”

However, in 2025, circumstances have shifted. United is undergoing a rebuilding phase under fresh leadership, while Muller seeks a venture that feels fulfilling and enjoyable.

Muller also commented on Liverpool’s acquisition of Florian Wirtz, expressing confidence in the young German’s potential: “Ultimately, the German players I encountered in my career who transitioned to the Premier League have adapted well.”
