PSG Races Premier League Giants to Secure 27-Year-Old Star

PSG enters competition with Premier League clubs to acquire 27-year-old star image

Paris Saint-Germain has entered the fray alongside Premier League heavyweights in the race for Christopher Nkunku. The 27-year-old French striker, who signed with Chelsea in 2023, has struggled to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge and may be headed for an exit.

Nkunku was brought in for £52m [$69m] from RB Leipzig, arriving with significant hopes.

However, injuries and stiff competition for a place in the squad have hindered his performance, resulting in just 9 starts in the Premier League, with three goals in 27 appearances.

Given his previous reputation as one of Europe’s most menacing forwards, these statistics are disappointing.

Recent reports by RMC Sport indicate that Nkunku might have reached a “critical juncture” at Chelsea. If the team does not qualify for the Champions League and he remains sidelined, a summer exit might become necessary.

PSG, Nkunku’s previous club, considered a bid in January but decided against it, as per journalist Ben Jacobs.

However, with PSG revamping their offensive lineup, a renewed attempt can’t be dismissed.

Bayern Munich also showed interest in a winter transfer but ultimately chose not to proceed. Still, Christian Falk from Sport Bild suggests that the German giants might re-enter the conversation, particularly if Leroy Sane were to leave.

Liverpool is now in the mix as well. Foot Mercato reveals that initial discussions have occurred, as manager Arne Slot views Nkunku’s adaptability as beneficial.

Capable of playing multiple attacking roles, Nkunku matches Liverpool’s strategy for dynamic and versatile forwards.

According to The Sun, at least six clubs—Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle, PSG, and Atlético Madrid—are keeping a close watch on Nkunku’s situation.

PSG has an alternative forward in mind

If PSG cannot secure Christopher Nkunku, they have a potential backup in mind: Dušan Vlahovic.

The 25-year-old Serbian striker is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, with sources like Gazzetta dello Sport and CaughtOffside confirming the club’s increasing interest.

Vlahovic, who transferred to Juventus for £66m [$88m] in January 2022, might now be available at a discounted price between £20-35m [$26-46m] as he nears the end of his contract.

Despite some fluctuations in performance, his formidable physicality, left foot, and scoring ability make him a strong candidate for PSG.
