      Ender's Game

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

If it isn't quite as thought-provoking as the book, Ender's Game still manages to offer a commendable number of well-acted, solidly written sci-fi thrills.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk Starship Troopers, Alien, Tron and Star Trek also make up the movie's DNA but the story - a provocative study about the morality of warfare and conflicts of leadership - injects something powerful and new into the familiar 'chosen one' plot trajectory. Rated: 4/5 Sep 6, 2017 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) The battle scenes are spectacular but lifeless and hard to engage with. We're watching a cascade of computer-game imagery. Rated: 2/5 Feb 21, 2014 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) It was a bit like standing in a room where someone is playing a video game on a screen and you're not actually taking part in it but you have to watch interminably this game being played and it's just really a bit boring. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 18, 2014 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Not having read Card’s novel, I couldn’t say whether it was truly “unfilmable,” but what ends up on the screen is indeed “filmable” in that we’ve seen these narrative threads countless times before in science fiction cinema. Rated: 2/4 Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A joyless video game experience, complete with levels of increasing difficulty and a main character who never really faces a true conflict. Rated: 2/4 Aug 22, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It is a fairly satisfying bit of science fiction that walks the tricky line of trying to appeal to youth and adults alike. For the most part it succeeds. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Charley F Thought that Ender's Game was entertaining and worth the watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/24 Full Review Eric N It is so far from the book that it doesn't even tell the same story let alone leave any opening for the to try and get it correct with the sequel. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Allen K There was zero character development. It felt like you had to read the book just to understand what was going on. They jumped from one major scene in the book to another without setting up how they got to that point. The actors chosen for the parts don't fit the characters from the book at all. The acting and writing for this movie were horrible. What a shame they ruined a perfectly written book with this horrible movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Mark B It is a good movie. I did not read the book and did not know the story so I cannot comment on how it relates good or bad but as a stand alone movie it was well paced and well acted. O protagonista? O roteiro? A estoria? Roteiro e enredo razoável, com bons efeitos. Vale apena assistir? Sim Nota: 7 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review James L More worthwhile than box office and critical ratings suggest. Yes, it doesn't hold a candle to the books and does way too much contraction of story to fit it all into a movie. Sad. Very sad, because the bones are all there. Losing Asa when he's most able to play this role is a tragedy. Bean was so great where he was able to shine and was underutilized in nearly every way. Despite all this, any lover of the novels should respect this attempt and grieve that it did not hit enough to get the needed sequels. In this day and age, the only justice would be to see another attempt as a series on the scale of The Expanse. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
