Bobby Brown Issues Statement on Daughter’s Hospitalization

The singer and father of Whitney Houston's only child asks for privacy as his daughter Bobbi Kristina fights for her life

UPDATE: In a statement issued by the Houston family on Monday afternoon, Bobbi Kristina “is fighting for her life,” according to Us Weekly. “We are asking you to honor our request for privacy during this difficult time,” said the family. “Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and we greatly appreciate your continued support.”

Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was rushed to the hospital January 31st after reportedly being found unresponsive in a bathtub at her home outside Atlanta, Georgia, an incident that mirrored the death of her mother nearly three years ago. While there are conflicting reports about Brown’s current condition, her father Bobby Brown issued a statement confirming that his daughter is hospitalized, Us Weekly reports.

“Privacy is requested in this matter,” Bobby said. “Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time.” A lawyer for the family added, “The report that Bobbi Kristina Brown has been taken to the hospital in Atlanta, Georgia is accurate. No additional information will be forthcoming.”

According to Reuters, and based on a report taken by the Roswell, Georgia, police department, the 21-year-old Bobbi Kristina Brown was found face down in a filled bathtub by her husband, Nick Gordon, and a friend. Gordon then administered CPR and other life-saving maneuvers on Bobbi Kristina until the ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital.

While initial reports claimed that she was “unresponsive,” a Roswell police spokesperson clarified that “[Bobbi Kristina’s] alive at the hospital.” However, her current condition remains unclear: TMZ reports that Bobbi Kristina is currently on a ventilator after her brain functions were “significantly diminished” in the incident. Us Weekly writes that she was placed in a medically induced coma, and People adds that doctors have told the Brown and Houston families that it would take “a miracle” for her to recover after being without oxygen so long.

Bobbi Kristina is the only child of Houston, who died on February 11th, 2012 after being discovered submerged in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel room. A coroner initially ruled that “accidental drowning” caused Houston’s death; that was later amended to add that the drowning occurred due to “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.” Immediately following Houston’s death, her daughter was hospitalized for extreme stress and anxiety, and the early passing of her mother continued to haunt Brown throughout the years.

“I can sing her music, but to hear it now, I can’t,” Bobbi Kristina told Oprah Winfrey in 2012. “I can hear her voice telling me, ‘Keep moving, baby. I got you.’ She’s always with me. I can always feel her with me. She used to always say, ‘Do you need me?’ And I said, ‘I always need you.'”

According to US Weekly, after Bobbi Kristina was taken to the hospital, a surface search of Brown and Gordon’s home yielded no evidence of drugs or foul play. “We don’t leave any stone unturned,” a police spokesperson said. “So the police took a search warrant on the home. Before the warrant, initially when the police went into the home there were nothing there that indicated that anything out of the ordinary happened. There were no drugs out in the open.”
