2020 Democrat Joe Biden stumbled over his words as he attempted to recite the Declaration of Independence ahead of Super Tuesday.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” the former vice president said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. “All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”
During the stop, he also accidentally referred to Super Tuesday as “Super Thursday” before correcting himself.
The Declaration of Independence reads: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Delaware’s senator for 36 years has made several misstatements or embellishments during his 2020 bid for the White House. Recently, during campaign stops, he mistakenly said his late son Beau Biden was the attorney general and incorrectly stated he is running for U.S. Senate instead of for president. During a recent debate, Biden claimed 150 million people had been killed by guns since 2007.
The former vice president picked up a key win in South Carolina’s primary on Saturday, closing the gap between himself and Democratic Party front-runner Sen. Bernie Sanders. Voters in 14 states and American Samoa will vote on March 3 as part of Super Tuesday contests, in which 1,357 delegates are up for grabs.
