The Hollywood Film Awards! You could ask 100 people—100 film experts, no less—and probably wouldn’t be able to get a straight answer as to what they are, who comprises the voting body, and what they’re actually awarding. It sounds like a made-up award show in a romantic comedy. (“Go find him and tell him how you feel, Val!” “But . . . he’s 500 miles away and about to accept a Hollywood Film Award!”)

At last night’s ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Amy Schumer was presented the Hollywood Comedy Award, and she was presented it by Selena Gomez. Gomez professed a concern that she may have been a second choice for the honor—“I am really happy that Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t able to do this tonight . . . because I love you!” Gomez gushed from the stage. The pop star explained, quite earnestly, how Schumer and her brand of humor have influenced her. “You’ve inspired me to not take myself too seriously,” Gomez said. “When I sit on my couch sort of endlessly depressed about certain things, you've constantly made me feel like I'm a bad-ass. Though most of the time I am not. You say the things I wish I could say. And you never, ever make me feel bad for anything I do in my personal life. Even though you don't know me. . . . Let me make it clear, I'm a huge fan!”

Schumer’s speech unsurprisingly began with, uh, less introspection than Gomez offered. Referencing the decorations on stage, Schumer joked, “It’s great to be here on this set of a Bollywood musical. Girls of my size don’t usually get to work on those sets and it’s an honor.” She did, though, on more of a serious note, return Gomez’s praise. “I didn’t ask Jen—Selena, you’re my first choice,” she said, going on, “There are so many amazing women like Selena, who's like, ‘You know what? I’m going to be confident and I’m going to live to my potential and be really proud of my work and not fit into the mold that is so dated that we’ve been supposed to fit in the whole time,’” Schumer said. “And I’m really proud to be someone who is going to continue doing work to . . .” At this point, per the Daily Mail, Schumer trailed off (Amy Poehler was seen “giggling” in the audience) and then Schumer finished, “What the fuck am I talked about? Like shut up! Amy, who cares?”

We would say you should feel safe adding another spoke, for Gomez, to the J.Law-Schumer squad schematic you have been diagramming in your attic.
