Josh Peck to Star in Disney+ Turner & Hooch Series Reboot

According to Deadline, Disney+ has officially given a 12-episode order to Matt Nix’s upcoming series adaptation of the 1989 buddy cop comedy Turner & Hooch with former Nickelodeon star Josh Peck attached for the leading role of Scott Turner. This project marks Peck’s first major TV role in 4 years since starring in Fox’s Grandfathered sitcom opposite John Stamos.

Peck first gained recognition for his iconic role as Josh Nichols in Nickelodeon’s fan-favorite Drake & Josh sitcom which ran on-air from 2004-2007. His film credits also include The Wackness, Red Dawn and the Ice Age film franchise.

Peck’s Scott Turner, who was famously portrayed by Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in the film, is being described as an ambitious, buttoned-up U.S. Marshall who suddenly inherits a big unruly dog, soon realizing the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs. This version will be different from the film as Hanks’ character was originally a police detective.

The series reboot will be written and executive produced by Matt Nix (The Gifted, Burn Notice) as part of his overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV. Bones‘ Josh Levy will also serves as an executive producer.

The original Turner & Hooch film was directed by Roger Spottiswoode. It followed Hanks’ uptight California detective Scott Turner as his life is uprooted when is he forced to partner up with the drooling junkyard dog Hooch, as the Dogue de Bordeaux was witness to the murder of his owner and can identify the killer. In addition to Hanks, the original film starred Mare Winningham and Craig Nelson.

Turner and Hooch joins a list of properties being rebooted and reimagined by Disney+ including Diary of a Wimpy KidHome Alone and Night at the Museum, amongst others. The 1989 film is currently available for streaming on the new streaming service. The Home Alone reboot recently cast Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Rob Delaney (Catastrophe).
