Vanessa Hudgens Just Opened Up About Her 5-Year Relationship With Zac Efron
If you remember those two years in the mid to late 2000s when High School Musical and its sequels were an absolute obsession –then we’re sure you recall all of the hoopla surrounding Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. The real-life couple starred as an on-screen couple, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez in the HSM franchize and the world could not get enough of them.
It’s been almost a decade since the final HSM premiered and Hudgens and Efron’s relationship fizzled. However, the Grease Live! actress just opened up about the fond memories of her relationship with the Baywatch actor.
How did Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron begin dating?
During an appearance on the Awards Chatter podcast, Hudgens reflected on the relationship that helped shape her. She explained, “It started off really organically. I could not have been more grateful to have that relationship at the time. It was this massive phenomenon and [all] eyes were on me. And it’s just a really weird foreign thing to go through. And by being in a relationship, it kind of kept me stabilized and grounded, and I had someone to lean on who was going through it as well.”
A massive fight between Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron almost canceled High School Musical
Though their relationship was positive –like any pairing, they had their ups and downs. One particular fight caused a lot of tension on the set of one of the HSM sequels. Hudgens remembered,
I remember [director] Kenny Ortega coming around the corner with the most concerned look on his face like, ‘Oh no, is our movie going to fall apart right?’ I pride myself on being a professional, so I was like that aside we are going to move forward and do what we need to do,” she said. “And we sorted it all out. I think because I was so young, I think that relationship stabilized me.
Why did Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron break up?
After five years together–Hudgens and Efron called it quits in December 2010. However, there was nothing salacious or dramatic about their break up. The pair had spent their late teens and early 20s together, and it was time for something new.
At the time, a mutual friend of the former couple said, “It [was] nothing dramatic. There [was] no third party involved.” Another source explained, “It [was] nothing dramatic. There [was] no third party involved.”

Since 2011 –Hudgens has been in a relationship with The Carrie Diaries actor, Austin Butler. All of these years later the pair are still going strong.
