‘Fox & Friends’ guest says poor people too busy ‘watching porn’ to get a job

“Fox & Friends” guest Star Parker made some curious remarks on set Wednesday, telling the show’s hosts during an interview that an overly generous U.S. social safety net would exacerbate poverty and only hurt poor people, who she said were watching porn instead of looking for work.

“People here in Washington and in particular the [American Enterprise Institute] has done extensive study on this to show that what they’re calling them now are ‘watchers,'” Parker, a conservative activist and founder of the Center for Renewal and Education, said. “These guys are not working, they’re watching. They’re watching porn, they’re watching TV, they’re watching women, they’re watching everything.”

With the camera pulled away, it’s unclear how hosts Steve Doocy and Ainsley Earhardt immediately reacted to the remark, but they played it cool in the seconds afterward.

“It’s not to hurt them. It’s to actually make them self-sufficient, so they can contribute to society and actually help themselves,” Earhardt added.

Parker said the issue was why she was supporting President Trump’s initiative to make make it more difficult to receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — more commonly known as food stamps.

“Long-term reliance on government assistance has never been part of the American dream,” Sonny Perdue, secretary of agriculture, said in a press release explaining the policy, according to the Atlantic.

“As we make benefits available to those who truly need them, we must also encourage participants to take proactive steps toward self-sufficiency. Moving people to work is common-sense policy, particularly at a time when the unemployment rate is at a generational low.”
