Now this is a pretty picture. Chris Wood is returning to Supergirl for the CW drama’s upcoming 100th episode (Feb. 23, 9/8c) and TVLine has your exclusive first look at Mon-El’s long-awaited reunion with his costumed pals.
Wood, who also recently returned to the Vampire Diaries universe via Legacies, appears fully suited and fully bearded in our sneak peeks. He also looks to be in the midst of a tense and/or confusing conversation between Kara (Melissa Benoist), Winn (Jeremy Jordan), Alex (Chyler Leigh), a well-armed Kelly (Azie Tesfai) and J’onn (David Harewood).
In addition to Wood, TVLine has also confirmed that Odette Annable and Sam Witwer will appear as Samantha Arias (aka Reign) and Ben Lockwood (aka Agent Liberty), respectively. Annable was last seen in Supergirl‘s third season finale (2018), while Witwer most recently appeared in the show’s fourth season ender (2019).
As previously reported, Supergirl‘s milestone hour will also introduce Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!) as the new Mr. Mxyzptlk, previously played by Peter Gadiot back in Season 2. Per the episode’s official synopsis, “Mxyzptlk returns with a proposition for Kara: What if she could go back in time and tell Lena her secret before Lex did? Would things turn out different? Looking back over key moments throughout the series, Kara must decide if she wants to change history to become friends with Lena again.”
Are you excited to see Mon-El back in National City? And what are your hopes for Supergirl‘s 100th episode? Scroll down to see a second exclusive shot, then drop a comment with your thoughts below.
For all those hoping Chris comes back as a regular, he’s been casted in a new show on ABC which will most likely be picked up for a series order. So he’s going right back to the future. He isn’t going to stay. Sorry. 🤷🏼♀️
Nah, they’ll save his return for the last few eps of the series, probably next year. Time enough for one last love triangle with whatever random dude they bring in next season when they finally get back to telling a story about Kara.
If he’s on a new network, he legally can’t appear on another network. That’s was why Melissa and Grant didn’t appear in the Glee finale. So when the show gets picked up, he has a new contract with a new network.
That just doesn’t exist, as people do guest spots in rival networks all of the time. What can happen is scheduling conflicts, as in his show is shooting the same days he would be on the Supergirl set.
It does. People can have clauses in their contracts preventing them. If I could send a link in the comments, I would. My cousin I’m in the industry and has told me. 🙄
Completely untrue. A series regular is typically allowed around three guest spots on any second series. –Mgmt.
Actors can have clauses in their contracts preventing any cameos though. Especially on a rival network.
They “can,” sure.
It’s likely a matter of each individual contract. Usually actors will stick with one network because they’re busy enough with one show and shows are often shot in different locations. If they’re working 10 hours a day for five or six days a week, they don’t have time for other work. But many actors without a regular role will do multiple guest spots. The current contract takes priority over other contracts, but it’s not unheard of for a recurring actor on one show to do a pilot for a new show which could wind up anywhere.

https: //www.quora.com/Why-is-it-so-uncommon-for-an-actor-to-appear-in-two-shows-at-once
You stated that it was forbidden across the board; I was saying that is not the case. See: Johnny Galecki, while starring on CBS’ No. 1 comedy, guesting on the Roseanne revival, ABC’s No. 1 comedy.
A contract is only binding between the parties. If actor A has a clause preventing him from being in other shows, it doesn’t mean that the rule is universal. Actor B can negotiate not to have such clause in his contract. There is NO LAW which prohibits an actor to have a guest role in a show on a rival network.
And why do you paste Quora answers to support your erroneous conclusion?
I’ll believe the aces here at TVLand over quota every day and minute of the week
Don’t mind Munnie, she desperately needs to believe he’ll never come back because she thinks somehow that means Lena and Kara will someday be together. That’s obviously never happening, but she’s gotta grasp at whatever straws she can find.
You’re the one grasping at straws now, honey. Where did I ever talk about Kara and Lena in here? Even if I ship them, doesn’t mean I’m graphing at straws saying he won’t come back when it’s pretty obvious he has other projects going on that will take up most of his time.
Mun, why are you trying so damn hard to convince others it CAN’T happen when it very obviously can? No one’s saying it definitely will, or that it’s even likely. But it’s absolutely a possibility. So really why is this so important to you?
I’m pretty sure any scenes Melissa was in for the Glee finale was cut. I remember seeing her in stills they released. She couldn’t make it to the I Lived shoot because of Supergirl, though
This hasn’t been the case in practice for two decades now. It was the case during the 20th century. The “golden age” of television has pretty much erased this as content producers care more about creating quality product for ancillary revenue streams, which means story needs are king, which means you might need actors back who have found other jobs, and in the interest of reciprocity, you allow them to go. Also, it keeps the actors happy, and allows them to stretch their creative muscles, and a happy actor is one who wants to keep working with you. It’s the same reason the “studio system” collapsed in Hollywood back in the mid 20th century.
Depends on his contract with the new series.
The contract generally is between the production company and not the network. It may state that they cannot appear on other shows (IF that clause is in their contract), it may state that they cannot appear on competing networks (IF that clause is in their contract) Or it may restrict the number of other appearances they can make.
Drew Carey recently appeared on The Masked Singer on Fox, despite being the host of The Price is Right on CBS. Clearly there is no prohibition in his contract preventing him from appearing elsewhere. Similarly with Wayne Brady last season, despite being a member of the cast of Who’s Line on CW.
Guest appearances by stars on other shows has become much more prevalent with the advent of shorter seasons, summer seasons, and limited time events making shooting schedules a little easier to work around.
No one asked you. And no one said anything about him coming back as a regular.
the link you sent literally states that nothing in the contract prevents you from being on other shows it’s most just scheduling. so if chris wants to come back he can if his schedule is open. also did you read his contract? because you don’t know whether he can appear or not.
Mon-El belongs in the 31st century with the LSH. What I’d like to see is Kara go back with him and join the Legion too. With Lois and Clark coming. Lex is his Main Antagonist NOT Kara’s. Reporting is Clark’s job ( at the Daily Planet or not)NOT Kara’s. Working at the DEO never flew with me. I hoped they would Have written Kara as the Headstrong, tough,Kryptonian young Woman finding the balance between Krypton and Earth. She’s just too soft at the worse times. I think that’s an insult to Supergirl,Kara and women in general. What do I know?
I love seeing supergirl and Mon-El together. It makes the show way more enjoyable. I like Lena Luthor she is smart and picks up on everything.
Can superman join the team? It would be nice to see supergirl and superman work together more often
I was so upset when they had to split apart that was a beautiful love story but what pissed me off is when he came back married
I wonder if they realize spoiling EVERY SINGLE guest appearance rips any fun out of actually watching? How much fun was MovieFlash and Robert Wuhl in Crisis because it wasn’t spoiled months ahead of time? Ratings are bad enough as is so spoiling everything isn’t exactly helping
actually Robert Wuhl was spoiled months in advance and personally I thought the only fun parts of crisis were the parts where Brandon Routh played Superman.
Mon-El is Back!!!!
I’m so happy, guess I will watch this episode after I dropped the show midseason 4
At the very least it means neither Kara nor the show has forgotten him.
Me too. Hadn’t watched the show until Winn returned recently. Glad Mon-El is back especially since no one even mentioned him on Winn’s return. Finally a reason to watch this show again.
yaayy this is excellent news!
I know he’s controversial among fans, but I like Chris/Mon-El and miss him on the show. Happy he’ll be paying a visit!
Same.
Same here.
Same! I thought he was great!
Ditto
Same
I liked how his character evolved in S2. I did not like how he was brought back in S3 but I like the character overall and consider him Endgame for Kara. I think Kara/Supergirl leaving present day to go to the future to join Mon-el and the Legion is a perfect way to end the show…. YEARS from now… lol!
Same
You’re not alone. He’s well liked among the broader audience, but a small vocal weird minority stirred up so much toxicity in the f fandom that it scared normal people off.
If I could see people coming back for the 100th episode it would be: Winn, James, Cat Grant, MonEl, Maggie and of course Eliza. I also wish it could have been a 2 hour episode. Really is no need for anyone to be upset over MonEl or Maggie since this is a what if episode and they are not permanently returning. So I say just sit and enjoy the episode.
Winn is definitely back. They have a three episode arc in mind and the 100th episode is the end of it. Not sure about James, since Mehcad was busy getting ready to film Mortal Kombat.
Am glad Mon El is back. Woulde be nice to see even a glimpse of agent maggie in the 100 episode though
I was worried 100th will be all about Lena so nothing for me. but if Mon El is returning and Winn will be still around I’m looking forward to it
Agree! I love Mon-el and Winn! Looking forward to the 100th! And please ignore Munro, a known Supercorp shipper. She goes on every site I see mentioning Supergirl and says bad things not only about Mon-el but about Chris Wood . Please stop already.
I just really want Cat Grant back. But I understand that Calista won’t be returning as a regular. A shame really.
I agree with you – Cat Grant was so good in her part. I also would love to see her come back but I know that will never happen – one can always hope though.
Me too. These returns are not as surprising. If Cat came back then I’d be excited. She’s been gone for years.
I get she isn’t a regular. But why haven’t they been able to bring her back in nearly 3 years. That’s the strange part.
Callista doesn’t like filming in Van and doesn’t like being far from Harrison.
Hopefully he has better luck than he did on Legacies this week.
I want Callista Flockhart to appear most of any past cast member.
This sounds like an interesting episode. I really liked Mon-El and how he grew but I get that not everyone does. I’m glad that Chris Wood has started doing more acting again.
Most people didn’t get his arc. It was about a man rejecting the toxic patriarchal values he was raised with, and it was one of the best plots they’ve done. But people did a superficial read, decided being briefly a jerk makes you irredeemable, and said cancelled.
But I hope a lot of the boys watching took the lesson to heart: you can learn to be BETTER than how you were raised.
So Kelly is going to be the new Guardian? Cool!
That was hinted at the start of Crisis…
She was just using his shield to help with the evacuation of Earth 38 and save civilians
I know. But to see it finally happen is great.
————-
Now if they could just get back to letting Kara and Alex act like they are sisters instead of just colleagues would be even better.
I like her but no. When and if James comes back he should be Guardian
Praying for a Cat Grant surprise appearance…. Please???
Chris is a welcome sight no matter how long he’s there for.
Yes he is so fine
Oh My God Chris Wood is one of my favorite actors plus he plays my favorite character in the arrowverse Mike Matthews/Mon-El former prince of daxam the sister planet of krypton where Superman Supergirl Superboy Krypto General Zod Jor-el Lara Van-El Zor-El Alura Zor-el and many others were born
Will be cool if he stays in the show with Kara after this
He isn’t. Chris has a new show. So he won’t be a regular on Supergirl. I don’t think they were even planning that.
It’s about time. I really think Chris and Melissa work well together. And it gives the show a little suspense of their romantic past. Love the show…!
EEEEECH. Couldn’t stand Mon-El. He and Kara had no chemistry.
But at least it’s just for one episode……….right?
Which is amusing, because in real life, they’re married
LMAO! Things that people write… out of spite; and yet, they’re married in real life and form a gorgeous couple.
People can have an opinion you know . They don’t have to see the chemistry.
Just because they married don’t mean the characters did.
LOLOL yeah okay two people falling in love in real life while their characters were falling in love on screen had no chemistry. Sure Jan.
If I remember correctly, wasn’t Smallville’s 100th episode also about Clark Kent going back in time, but to prevent from telling Lana his secret?
No, it was to save her.
I understand it was to save her but he went back in time AFTER he told her his secret
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reckoning_(Smallville)
I understand that it was to save Lana, but that was only AFTER she was killed because he told her his secret…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reckoning_(Smallville)
Yea, to save her ONLY AFTER HE TOLD HER HIS SECRET in the Fortress of Solitude
i am happy to see Chris back for the 100th episode but James who was in season one and more should have also been in it. As for Chris – he is okay for 1 episode but I don’t want to see him come back. When he is in the show, suddenly the show becomes about him and not SuperGirl. If he want to be front and center then get a show and name it the MonEl show.
I agree.
I know right. Mon El was the reason I stopped watching the show. He overshadowed everyone including Kara. Mehcad/James is an original cast member and male lead. Unfortunately the CW and current showrunners Jessica Queller and Rob Rovner act like he didn’t exist or Kara loved him. I have a feeling Mehcad leaving was either not his decision or was fed up with the current showrunners sidelining his character. What the show is attempting to do with William could’ve been done with James.
No he didn’t mon-L drag down the show with that suit and he never over shadow anyone people wanted him to be gone .
He did. There were a lot of negative articles about the character.
DITTO.
It’s pretty clear based on the story that Chris Jeremy and mehcad are gone because their presence makes the current storyline impossible. They may not have been fired but they would have had to have been sidelined regardless to make it work. And why stick around for that?
Otherwise they can’t frame Kara keeping a secret as some kind of great bEtRaYaL. It’s bad enough they have to write Alex completely ooc and keep everyone else distant from the conflict to make it work.
Jeremy wrote a whole post on Instagram as to why he left. Winn was already basically sidelined and Jeremy wanted to be close to his wife and now his daughter. He also wanted to return to Broadway. That’s why he left. Mehcad was in a movie that was filming in Australia. The writers also didn’t know what to do with his character anymore. For two of them, it was basically they wanted to leave and they were also being sidelined.
As opposed to this season and last when it’s about Lena and not Supergirl? At least season 2 the story was about her trying to balance the sides of herself. Now she hasn’t had any character development for 2 years. What does Kara even WANT in life any more? What is she learning about herself? Who knows, it never comes up.
I wonder if Mon-El patched things up with Saturn Girl. I know he has a star-crosses thing with Kara, but come on..that woman is seriously fine.
The lack of wedding ring on Mon-El’s hand doesn’t bode well for that.
Yay! I stopped watching the show when Mon-El left at the end of S3. I’ll tune in again on the 23rd.
I am thrilled!!! Chris Wood and Jeremy Jordan are my favorites!!
Loved seeing Chris Wood with Supergirl and am excited he’s back!!!! 😍
He’s already back in season 5? What episode?I really love their love team Kara and mon el
It sounds like the guest stars including Mon-El will only be in Kara’s what if world created by Mr. Mxyzptlk rather than actually there. Would like to see an appearance by Mon-El in continuity .
I think this is before she does her what if scenario. They all look tense and it looks like Kara and Mxy are telling everyone their plan.
