EXCLUSIVE: Drew McIntyre explains why Edge and Randy Orton should main event night one of WrestleMania – not Roman Reigns and Goldberg

For the first time ever, WrestleMania will be held over two days and WWE are billing it as 'an event too big for just one night'.

While many fans have wondered if 'Mania could be a two night event for a while, the reality is WWE is at the mercy of the coronavirus and the guidelines in place to combat it in America.

Only being able to have so many people in one space has forced the company to spread the event over two days and multiple venues with no fans in attendance.

One main event is almost certain to be Drew McIntyre vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE title.

McIntyre won the 2020 Royal Rumble to earn his main event slot, but who will feature in the other main event?

During an exclusive chat with talkSPORT, McIntyre suggested that Edge and Randy Orton would be the right pick for the top showdown, even though he feels world title matches - like Roman Reigns' Universal title match with Goldberg - should usually main event.

We've spoken about this a bit already, but the coronavirus has really robbed you of a that potential dream moment where you win the title and the fans go crazy. However, you must be delighted that the event isn't off altogether and you still get the chance to put on this huge match?

For a start, I'm really excited and proud that WWE are trying to give people something to take their mind of this pandemic. The whole world is suffering, there's no other way about it. We've got extreme, strict rules at the PC. We all get checked as we go in, there's very limited crews etc and we're doing everything to make it as safe as we possibly can.

I'm very proud that we're still pushing ahead to give everyone that content and to still have that match with Brock Lesnar for the WWE title, of course it's very exciting for me. Obviously you always dream of your big moment in a big stadium with everyone cheering, having your family there, your wife there and it's crazy to think the fans probably would have been on my side, but, you've got to look at the bigger picture.

It's not about my moment that people may remember on the night but forget not long after, it's about what's going on in the world right now and if I can still get my title shot and I can still entertain the world during this time and if - no, screw that - when I become WWE champion [laughs] I want to be the guy leading the company.

Leading the WWE, not just in a difficult time for the company - there's been champions in the past like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart that have led the company in difficult times for the company - this is a difficult time for the world. I want to be the guy that's pulling the wagon during this time and when I finally walk out in front of a crowd for the first time, it's not going to be my 'Mania moment, that's going to be our wrestling moment.

Presumably, yourself and Brock Lesnar will be a main event on one of the two nights, probably the last one. Who do you think should main event the other night?

I've seen Roman pushing the main event of him and Goldberg, and I respect Roman more than most people in the world, but I won the Royal Rumble, mate. I'm the main event [laughs]. I'm going to pick Brock and I to main event night two because that's the one that sends everybody home [proverbially].

For the first night, I'll go for... ah, it's so hard! Because Roman and Goldberg is for the title and that's very important, it should be the main event. But Edge and Randy Orton is so personal and so well built.

The situation we're in isn't ideal for most people when having matches, but I know these guys. They're such good sellers and storytellers that it's going to be like a cinematic masterpiece watching their match. That's how it looks in my head. The way they work and the way their facials and their storytelling, I imagine their match will be more like watching a movie.

Brock and I, I imagine it's more like a bar fight, very uncomfortable to watch. Which I think that will be cool to play down the camera to everybody at home, we can be smart about it. So you've got to think bigger picture; how can we make this interesting for everybody watching at home? That's the way I see our match. So I'm going to go with Edge and Randy.

I think The Fiend is going to take down John Cena in pretty convincing fashion for revenge and I think Roman is going to take down Goldberg in pretty convincing fashion.

Edge and Randy, myself and Brock, we're probably going to put in a little bit more time, so that's another reason why. I don't know that by the way, that's just how I feel.

It's tough, because the title should be last. Roman didn't technically lose the title either. Although the meme of me winning the Royal Rumble and then Roman walking out and saying 'I'm next' made me laugh [laughs].

Realistically, the title was taken off him, he didn't lose it. He has a great story to tell, but I just think he's going to run Goldberg over pretty quick and the story behind Edge and Randy, the nine years, the fact that in this particular setting they're going to thrive in it, I'd put it last - on night one! Brock and I are obviously night two [laughs].
