It has been evident for some time that Kanye West is increasingly losing his influential supporters. This decline is unsurprising considering his ongoing public statements, which are filled with hate. His erratic comments have caused a rift between him and his children, as Kim Kardashian has chosen to protect them from his actions.
Although West still retains some fans, prominent figures are distancing themselves from him. One notable example is his former collaborator, John Legend, who discussed West during an interview with The Sunday Times. In this conversation, Legend reflected on how West supported him at the start of his career, contrasting it with West’s current behavior.
Legend remarked on West’s earlier days, describing him as filled with creativity and optimism. He expressed sadness about West’s current state, noting that he never expected to witness such a drastic change in him, particularly regarding his troubling views on different communities. Legend inferred that West’s significant change began after his mother’s death in 2007, a turning point that seems to have worsened over the years.
The Origin of John Legend and Kanye West’s Collaboration
The relationship between Legend and West dates back to 2001. In 2004, when West launched his label GOOD Music, Legend was its first signed artist, joining forces with Common. He had met West through producer Devo Harris and began contributing creatively to West’s projects.
Legend produced six albums under GOOD Music before moving to Columbia Records. While he acknowledges West’s pivotal role in his rise to fame, there comes a time when past support cannot excuse irresponsible behavior.
