Taylor Swift and Blake Lively, who were previously known for their close friendship, are reportedly striving to mend their connection. Nonetheless, insiders indicate that their relationship still feels tense following recent developments.
As reported by a source to “People”, Swift, 35, and Lively, 37, are currently “on good terms“, yet the essence of their friendship “has changed compared to the past”. The duo, who used to be seen together often, are said to be spending significantly less time together.
Swift Faces a Legal Challenge
The reported strain arises from Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Swift has inadvertently become associated with this situation, complicating her relationship with Lively.
The Gossip Girl star lodged a lawsuit in December 2024 against Baldoni, 41, claiming sexual harassment, breach of contract, emotional distress, and invasion of privacy. In her allegations, Lively mentioned a deliberate effort to undermine her professionally, which was further explored in a “New York Times” article titled: “We Can Bury Alone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine”.
Baldoni has refuted these charges and has filed a $400 million countersuit for defamation and extortion, targeting Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their public relations team. In this countersuit, Baldoni alleged that Swift was present at a meeting at Lively’s New York City apartment to discuss changes to the script. He stated that Lively tried to leverage her close relationships with Swift and Reynolds for her own benefit, referring to them as her “dragons” and “titans” in storytelling.
The actor also mentioned Swift in a text addressed to Lively, expressing that her script modifications were valuable, adding: “I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor”, implying Black’s role in the creative direction.
Working on Their Friendship
In spite of the ongoing legal issues, Swift and Lively reportedly rekindled their friendship in April 2025 after some time apart. Nonetheless, rebuilding trust will be a gradual process. A source mentioned, “Taylor is striving to rebuild her trust in Blake”, adding, “but it will require time”.
The joint trial involving Lively and Baldoni, which will address both lawsuits, is currently slated for March 2026.
