Vietnamese Soldiers Shine at Russia’s Victory Day Parade
Commander Pham Khac Giang of the Vietnamese military parade unit in Russia remarked that being warmly greeted by President Vladimir Putin was a moment of both personal and collective pride for his unit.

The 80th anniversary of Victory Day, marking the conclusion of the Great Patriotic War, was celebrated on May 9 in Red Square, Moscow. The sight of Vietnamese People’s Army (VPA) soldiers marching confidently sparked pride across social media, especially among Vietnamese citizens.
The contingent, led by Giang and comprising 68 soldiers, displayed a disciplined 8-by-8 formation, complete with a three-person team honoring the military flag.
In an interview with VietNamNet, Giang reflected on his nostalgic memories of training in Russia and emphasized how honored the Military Officer School No. 1 felt to be chosen for this prestigious international event.
“This opportunity will motivate us to enhance our training and fulfill our commitments to the Party, State, Army, and the people,” Giang expressed.

A memorable moment occurred when President Putin met with parade leaders, including Giang, which left a lasting impression due to the Vietnamese soldier’s poise and confidence.
He also shared the initial struggles faced upon arriving in Russia, such as adapting to the time zone and severe cold. However, a well-organized training regime and support from instructors facilitated a smooth adjustment, enabling successful participation in the parade.
Giang expressed heartfelt thanks to the Vietnamese community in Russia for their support, stating, “We received warm care from our compatriots, and I’m grateful to the Vietnamese community, my fellow soldiers, and the people back home.”

Born in 2000 in Thuan Thanh, Bac Ninh, Giang is currently stationed at the Military Officer School No. 1, and he was chosen to lead the VPA contingent during the parade. He is known for his approachable demeanor outside of his military duties, often sharing daily moments on social media.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Sy Quang, head of drill training at the school, expressed joy upon the team’s return to a warm reception at Noi Bai Airport, noting that everyone was healthy and in high spirits.
Reflecting on the performance during the May 9 event, Lt. Col. Quang praised the formation’s quality and highlighted that the Russian side regarded them as one of the best foreign groups participating.
“Adjusting to the four-hour time difference and challenging weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, posed health challenges. The training grounds were also different from those back home, but the whole team came together successfully,” he stated.

Lt. Col. Quang also thanked the Vietnamese community abroad for their enthusiastic support, including traditional food, which helped the soldiers maintain their health.
Vietnam’s invitation to participate in the Victory Day parade underscores Russia’s acknowledgment of Vietnam’s significance and highlights the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between the two nations, especially in defense and military collaboration.
The 68 soldiers, all from Military Officer School No. 1 and aged between 19 and 30, were chosen for their discipline and physical fitness, representing the best of the VPA.
