Justin Bieber has gone country. The Bieb has landed four nominations for the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards, much to the surprise of those who still think of him as the guy behind such tween-friendly hits as “Baby” and “Boyfriend.”
Justin Bieber is a first-time ACM nominee
Bieber may be a first-time ACM nominee, but he’s making a big debut, racking up an impressive four nominations. He got the nod for “10,000 Hours,” his collaboration with Dan + Shay. Bieber is nominated as both artist and songwriter in the Song of the Year category and is also nominated for Music Event of the Year and Video of the Year. Dan + Shay also received four nominations. Shay Mooney got one additional nomination and Dany Smyers received two.
“Honored to be nominated for 3 @ACMawards with my friends @DanAndShay,” Bieber tweeted after the nominees were announced on Feb. 27.
Released in October 2019, “10,000 Hours” has become a bonafide hit. It’s spent 20 weeks at no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It peaked at no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
As for fans who are hoping that Bieber and Dan + Shay will perform at the April 5 ceremony, we’ll have to wait and see. The list of performers hasn’t been announced.
Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, and Dann Huff lead the nominations
While Bieber’s four nominations are impressive, he didn’t lead the pack this year. That honor goes to Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, and producer Dann Huff, who each received five nominations.
Morris is nominated for Female Artist of the Year, Group of the Year (as a member of The Highwomen), Album of the Year (as both producer and artist), and Music Event of the Year.
“Completely floored at my @ACMawards nominations AND @TheHighwomen GOT AN EFFING FIRST NOM!!!!!” Morris tweeted.
Rhett earned five nods in four categories. He up for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year (as both producer and artist), Video of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year. Huff is nominated for his work on Rhett’s album Center Point Road and the Lady Antebellum single “What If I Never Get Over You,” as well as in three other categories.
Other nominees include Blake Shelton, Old Dominion, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Ahsley McBryde, and Kacey Musgraves. You can see the complete list of nominees at the Academy of Country Music website.
