The latest installment of HBO’s “The Last of Us” has us reflecting on the various cinematic depictions of cannibalism. One of the most recent is Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell’s “Bones and All,” which follows two teenage lovers attempting to survive in the margins of society while coming into their own, and who also happen to be cannibals. Director Luca Guadagnino discussed the film’s representation of cannibalism in a November 2022 interview with Variety, saying it was more about the characters’ emotional connection than their human-eating nature.
Aside from the film’s star power, what drew people in the most was its extreme portrayal of cannibalism. But this isn’t the first time a movie has focused on humans consuming other humans.
