Disney+ fans of the “Willow” reboot are in for a major letdown. Just two months after the show’s first eight-episode run ended in January, Deadline reported that the series has been canceled. POPSUGAR reached out to Disney+ for confirmation, but did not receive an immediate response.
The original 1988 movie, helmed by Ron Howard and starring Warwick Davis, follows a sorcerer named Willow on his mission to protect an infant destined to overthrow a tyrannical queen. The followup series picks up 20 years later, as Willow teams up with a group of young heroes to save their world from monsters called the Gales.
On March 15, Deadline reported that “Willow” was not renewed for a second season on Disney+, despite the show’s positive critical reception and passionate fanbase.
The only silver lining to this news is that although “Willow” will be ending in its current form, Deadline reports that the story and characters could be revisited in the future. You can still watch “Willow” season one on Disney+. Here’s everything you need to know about the show.
