Andrew Tate Fails to Overturn Conviction for Rape and Human Trafficking

Internet celebrity Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been denied bail by a Romanian court, and will remain in prison for at least another 30 days on charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organised crime group to exploit victims. The judge rejected their appeal against the decision on Wednesday, March 29. Last week, the brothers said they were ‘speechless’ after the court decided to extend their arrest for a fourth time. Prosecutors have alleged that the Tate brothers recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a relationship or marriage, and then took them to properties on the outskirts of Bucharest to produce pornographic content for social media sites. The prosecution can continue to request detentions for 180 days in total, meaning that if the judge continues to extend his arrest period, Tate will not be released from prison until at least 27 June.
