The Government of Kano State has refuted claims of a cholera outbreak within the state despite being listed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) as one of the 31 states grappling with the disease.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Health in Kano, stated on Wednesday that the state has no reported cases of cholera based on their records.
Abdullahi mentioned, “According to our investigations, there is no cholera outbreak in Kano. We do not have a single case at present. We have come across reports in the media, but we can affirm that there are none.”
Reports from Daily Trust indicated that the NCDC documented 1,141 cases between January and June 11, 2024, with 65 confirmed cases. By June 12, there were 30 reported deaths across 96 local government areas in 30 states, including 13 confirmed cases and one fatality in Kano.
The NCDC has reported a total of 34 deaths and 1,288 confirmed cases thus far.
