Tragedy struck when Panford Mweetwa, a 46-year-old teacher at Maguya Day Secondary School in Chipata District, Zambia, took his own life by ingesting an unknown poisonous substance.
Recently transferred from Nsanjika Day Secondary School to Maguya, Mweetwa left behind a note expressing his frustration over his perceived lack of accomplishment despite hard work, along with instructions on how his money should be distributed.
The unfortunate incident took place on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Mwami turn off.
Eastern Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer Stephen Mayoko confirmed the incident on Friday, July 5, stating that Mweetwa had informed his wife of going to Chipata town, but was later discovered unconscious around 10pm.
He was taken to Katandala clinic for initial treatment and then transferred to another hospital for admission. While receiving medical care, Mweetwa disclosed that he had deliberately consumed a toxic substance to end his life and tragically passed away the same day.
The body is currently in the mortuary awaiting burial.
