Following the tragic death of Matthew Perry, a troubling side of Hollywood’s drug culture is coming to light. Several prominent figures are now under scrutiny in connection with the renowned “Friends” actor’s fatal overdose of ketamine.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), in collaboration with the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Postal Inspection Service, is gearing up to potentially levy charges that could encompass involuntary manslaughter. Besides Brooke Mueller, who has been questioned regarding her relationship with Perry but is not facing any allegations, another actress with close ties to Perry is also under investigation.
Photo evidence shows this lesser-known actress, who starred alongside Perry, in the vicinity of a medical facility associated with ketamine prescriptions. Although the medical facility stated that Perry was not a patient, they declined to engage with any law enforcement queries at present.
Investigators are likely to scrutinize the actress’s phone for text messages that could hold significant information. Tracy Walder, a former special agent for the CIA and FBI, highlighted how drug networks often exploit mail fraud to traffic prescription drugs, an act categorized as a federal offense.
“The crux of the matter lies in intent,” Walder remarked. “While they were clearly aware of the illegality of their actions, did they understand the fatal consequences of their actions in obtaining this substance?”
Potential Charges of Involuntary Manslaughter
Walder speculated that potential charges of involuntary manslaughter could carry a prison term of up to five years. She highlighted the prevalence of drug trafficking through mail channels, where legal prescriptions are sold at inflated prices. “Individuals pay exorbitant sums for acquiring drugs… The existence of intricate networks is deeply unsettling,” she added.
Additionally, Walder theorized that Perry might have engaged in trading prescriptions with acquaintances. “He might have easily obtained drugs through a network of friends, exchanging prescriptions for monetary compensation, tapping into a market through such means,” she suggested.
Marty Singer, a Hollywood attorney with a long history of collaboration with Perry, stressed the importance of legal repercussions if anyone facilitated the supply of ketamine to Perry. “Anyone implicated in the inappropriate provision of ketamine to Matthew should face legal ramifications,” he asserted to Page Six.
Keith Morrison, Perry’s stepfather and the host of NBC’s “Dateline,” distanced himself from any involvement in the investigation. The passing of his stepson has profoundly impacted Morrison and Perry’s mother, Suzanne. Morrison conveyed the enduring pain: “The grief stays with you daily. It’s a constant companion,”
Perry was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub at his residence in Los Angeles on October 28. The autopsy disclosed elevated ketamine levels, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine as contributing factors.
