The Anambra State Police Command’s Commissioner, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, announced the arrest of 200 suspected criminals and the recovery of various items in the past two months.
During this period, approximately 1,644 rounds of ammunition were seized by the command’s operatives.
Those apprehended included suspected kidnappers, cultists, car thieves, and petty criminals.
“Efforts are being made to respond promptly to reported crimes, with a target of reaching the scene within 10 minutes,” he mentioned.
“Gov Chukwuma Soludo has provided significant support, while other security agencies such as the State Security Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have also lent their assistance.
Locally, vigilante groups have shown their support. Our collective efforts are aimed at combating crime,” he added.
He encouraged residents of Anambra to share information that can help combat criminal activities and emphasized engaging with various stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious bodies, and community leaders.
“I have called on traditional rulers to review any cultural practices that violate human rights to prevent social conflicts,” he remarked.
He cautioned against land grabbing, occult practices, cultism, violence, or infringement on individual liberties, asserting that such activities will not be tolerated in the state.
He warned individuals contemplating disrupting the peace of the state to reconsider, as the police force would resist any unlawful behavior.
