These days, everyone has a little bit more time to catch up with the latest Netflix shows. Undoubtedly, the most popular new series that has emerged over the past several weeks is the show, Tiger King.
The series is bizarre, funny, and extremely entertaining. For thousands of viewers, it is easily the most buzz-worthy new show to have been released in the past several years, and out of all the show’s talking points, one particular theory has taken hold of the popular imagination.
Recently, the cast of Tiger King opened up, revealing their thoughts about a salacious rumor.
What is ‘Tiger King’ about?
Tiger King may be named after Joe Exotic, one of the most flamboyant characters ever to be filmed for television, but it is actually about the world of exotic zoo owners in the Oklahoma area. Viewers are introduced to Exotic and his team, as well as other exotic zoo owners such as “Doc” Antle of Myrtle Beach, and, of course, Florida’s Carole Baskin, who is also the proprietor of a big-cat ranch, but styles herself as an advocate for wild animals.
Throughout the series, Baskin is seen as being pitted against Joe Exotic and the rest of the exotic zoo world, seemingly hell-bent on saving the animals in their zoos from what she perceives as inhumane treatment.
There is a whole lot more to the series than just big cats trapped in a zoo setting, however. Tiger King features themes of fraud, murder, polygamy, and so much more. These days, Joe Exotic is in prison, incarcerated for a murder-for-hire scheme as well as charges of falsifying records.
People have become obsessed with ‘Tiger King’
Almost as soon as it was released, Tiger King became a pop-culture phenomenon. The quick way that viewers latched on to the show proves that the country loves content that is just a little bit different, and even people who claim that they don’t like the show likely still can’t look away from the train wreck happening onscreen.
Tiger King has spawned countless memes, products, and theories. The most pervasive rumor is the idea that Baskin isn’t exactly the innocent animal savior that she clearly believes herself to be. In fact, many viewers point to the mysterious disappearance of her second husband, millionaire Don Lewis, as proof positive that she is involved in a murder mystery.
Recently, the cast members of Tiger King spoke out about the theory, revealing their thoughts as to whether Baskin is guilty or innocent.
The ‘Tiger King’ cast believes that Carole Baskin killed her husband
In 1991, Baskin married Lewis — a much-older, very wealthy man. Only a few years later, in 1997, Lewis vanished under mysterious circumstances. He hasn’t been seen or heard from in the years since and was declared dead in 2002.
Still, Lewis’s relatives believe that Baskin was the one responsible for Lewis’s disappearance, and state that Lewis was planning on leaving Baskin when he disappeared. Baskin, however, maintains that she is completely innocent in the matter of Lewis’s disappearance and that the accusations against her have no basis in fact.
The other cast members of Tiger King, however, have their minds made up. In a recent series of interviews, Doc Antle revealed that he definitely believes that Baskin killed Lewis.
“If you look at the series, Carole killed her husband,” said the notorious cat breeder. “I don’t know how she did it.”
Jeff Lowe, another quirky and sexist presence in the series, claims that Lewis was definitely planning on leaving Baskin and that it could have caused her to snap. He said: “I think she discovered that he was going to leave her. And she was not about to let that happen.”
Through it all, Baskin has maintained her innocence. And aside from rumors and accusations from her industry peers, there’s no proof suggesting Baskin is behind her husband’s disappearance.
