With Thor (Chris Hemsworth) struggling to hold off Thanos (Josh Brolin) as the Mad Titan tried to force Thor’s own ax Stormbreaker into his chest, the God of Thunder’s mystical weapon Mjolnir suddenly stirs on the ground nearby. As the faithful hammer (which gives its wielder the power of Thor) lifts from the ground and smacks Thanos in the back of the head, the crowd can already be heard cheering in the background of the video Gustin shared. But it’s the moment when the hammer flies back into the hands of its master that truly had the crowd whooping and screaming in unfettered delight, nearly drowning out the action on-screen.
Just stop what you’re doing and enjoy listening to the #AvengersEndgame opening night crowd react to Captain America wielding Thor’s hammer.

For the first time — if you’re not counting Vision (Paul Bettany), whom Thor, Cap, and Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) already determined doesn’t count given he’s a machine — Mjolnir’s master isn’t Thor. Instead, Mjolnir shoots straight back into the hand of Captain America, who has no problem calling forth the lightning Thor is so famous for enlisting in battle. As Odin (Anthony Hopkins) uttered in the first Thor movie, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” It’s kind of hard to argue with a man who’s not only a super-soldier, but is also able to harness the power of a god from another world.
Let’s be honest: we’ve always known Cap was worthy of wielding Mjolnir. How could the golden boy, the first Avenger, the superhero whose very internal goodness was the reason he even became said superhero, not be worthy? Along with hundreds of people in movie theaters on opening night, even Thor cheered for his friend as he saw Cap wielding his most prized possession, shouting out the line, “I knew it!”
