In a recent statement, Nigerian journalist Reuben Abati criticized the government led by Tinubu for planning to spend N21 billion on renovating the president and vice-president’s residences, amidst the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

Expressing his concerns during a discussion on ‘Duke Rants Muvmnt’ in Lagos State, Abati called on the federal government to curb extravagant spending in light of the high cost of living being faced by citizens.

Abati stressed the importance of leaders prioritizing the well-being of the people and making necessary sacrifices during these challenging times.

He voiced his disapproval, stating, “How can they justify spending billions on renovations when people are struggling to survive? It’s unacceptable and out of touch.

“We are in the midst of a cost of living crisis, and the call for sacrifices is directed at us… why aren’t they making sacrifices themselves?

“Amidst this crisis, leaders should be at the forefront of making sacrifices. It’s time for them to place the needs of the people above all else.

“My perspective on life differs. I don’t conform to the societal norms that have been imposed on us.”

Abati also highlighted the misuse of social media by individuals lacking empathy and civility and cautioned against restricting social media, emphasizing the importance of upholding freedom of expression by the government.
