Former Saturday Night Live star Victoria Jackson has revealed a significant update regarding her health: she has been informed by doctors that her cancer has returned, giving her an estimated three years to live.
The 65-year-old comedian disclosed this news on Wednesday, August 14, in an Instagram series titled “Is the Cancer Back?”
In an almost eight-minute video, Jackson candidly discussed the seriousness of her condition, sharing that the tumor is inoperable.
Describing the tumor as a “marble” on her windpipe, she explained the imminent danger it poses as it could potentially lead to suffocation. Given its delicate location, surgical intervention is not a viable option.
Remains Positive
Despite the challenging prognosis, Jackson maintains a hopeful attitude. She mentioned that her doctors have prescribed a medication containing Ribociclib, a cancer growth inhibitor that she referred to as a “magic pill.”
The treatment’s goal is to reduce the tumor’s size and potentially extend her life. Citing her research, Jackson stated that patients taking this medication typically have a life expectancy of around 32.6 months.
In her Instagram post accompanying the video, Jackson struck a slightly more positive tone regarding her outlook. Throughout the video, she emphasized her gratitude and maintained an optimistic demeanor.
Reflecting on her life, she remarked, “I’ve had a fantastic life.”
Jackson’s battle with cancer began in 2016 when she was initially diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she has been transparent about her journey, using her platform to update and engage with her audience. Her honesty and humor have been consistent elements as she faces these challenging circumstances.
Earlier this month, on August 1, Jackson posted a video showing her efforts to gather information about her condition online, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to sharing her story with her supporters.
Victoria Jackson is most recognized for her time on Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1992, where she gained prominence for her contributions to Weekend Update and her accurate portrayals of celebrities like Roseanne Barr and Sally Struthers.
