Escalating Rents Lead to Students Living in Cramped Rooms

Students are facing challenges in finding affordable rooms to rent due to high demand.

An online post in Cau Giay district advertising rooms for rent has stirred up conversations among internet users.

The landlord offers rooms with air-conditioning at the price of VND1.3-1.8 million per month, including amenities such as a water heater, refrigerator, washing machine, and parking space. Each room, measuring 3-4 sq m, contains an air conditioner and a wardrobe.

Netizens have criticized the ad, describing the rooms as cramped and unsuitable for living conditions. Some have compared the size of the rooms to coffins and questioned the high rent for such small spaces.

Concerns about the lack of space and amenities have prompted responses like, “I’d rather share a larger room with a roommate than stay in this tiny space alone.”

Investigations by VietNamNet reveal that the controversial rooms are located in a 4-storey building in Cau Giay district, with most rooms ranging from 2.5-3 sq m in size and already occupied.

A resident of the building shared that her 2.5 sq m room is even smaller than the advertised ones, forcing her to store her footwear in the corridor due to limited space inside.

Despite the cramped conditions, residents make do with the small rooms by only using them for sleeping, seeing it as a cost-effective solution.
