Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, refuted claims suggesting that he is enlisting members of the Edo State Security Network in military attire to potentially manipulate the September 21 gubernatorial elections in the state. He denounced these accusations as entirely false.
The allegations were brought forward by the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council in Edo State earlier this week.
Responding to the allegations, the governor’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, dismissed them as baseless falsehoods intended to divert attention from the APC’s alleged plans to tamper with the election results. He criticized the APC for attempting to distort the narrative to mask their own election rigging intentions.
Osagie stated, “The recent statement by the Media Consultant to Edo All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council, Kassim Afegbua, making unfounded claims about election rigging strategies for the upcoming governorship election on September 21st, should be disregarded as a fabrication of lies.
“Their endeavors are a desperate ploy to manipulate the election as they realize they lack popular support and are incapable of winning through fair means.
“The APC in Edo State has consistently denigrated the State’s Security and Vigilante Network in the lead-up to the governorship elections, attempting to discredit the intelligence gathering mechanism which local security agencies have acknowledged for its contributions in tackling crime, particularly at the grassroots level.
“They are anxious about their inevitable defeat after putting forth an unqualified candidate for governor and are now resorting to cunning tactics to undermine the will of the Edo people.
“We urge authorities to closely monitor Afegbua and the APC, as the accusations they level against others mirror their own sinister plans. This deceptive strategy of projecting their own malicious schemes onto others is a familiar tactic employed by the APC, yet the citizens of Edo State are astute enough not to be misled by hollow deceit.
“We appeal to the police, military, and all security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure a fair and transparent electoral process in Edo State.”
