Professor Thach dedicated many years to saving money from his salary, teaching, and writing, with the intention of using these funds for his retirement.
On September 10, he made the decision to withdraw his entire savings and generously donated it to support those affected by severe floods in Northern Vietnam through a media platform in Ho Chi Minh City.
Feeling a strong emotional response after observing the plight of the flood victims on news and social media, Professor Thach remarked on the significance of both material and emotional assistance during such tough times.
“Providing help is essential, as people need both financial resources and emotional support to recover,” he stated.
Although he has parted with his savings, Professor Thach confirmed that he is still financially secure as he receives a monthly pension. “While my savings are gone, my retirement allowance ensures my living expenses are met,” he noted with a cheerful attitude.
Professor Le Ngoc Thach, who previously taught at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Science, has significantly influenced many chemistry students throughout Southern Vietnam’s educational landscape.
Beyond his teaching and research endeavors, he has also published a variety of educational textbooks and resources. Even in retirement, Professor Thach remains active, continuing to educate students on a part-time basis at the university.
