Tragic Discovery Amid Flooding in Borno
The Police in Borno State have reported the grim finding of eleven decomposed bodies in various areas of Maiduguri, the state’s capital, as rescue efforts are still underway amidst devastating floods.
Severe flooding has wreaked havoc throughout Borno, causing significant disruption and damage.
The military, alongside volunteers and security personnel, has been actively evacuating families stranded in the inundated areas of Maiduguri to safer locations.
SP Ahmed Wakil, the Northeast Police Public Relations Officer, expressed the Command’s dedication to preventing further fatalities and prioritizing the safety of residents during this difficult period in a statement to reporters in Bauchi.
In his announcement, he stated, “Under the guidance of CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal psc, our officers are diligently working to tackle the flooding crisis within Maiduguri metropolis (MMC).”
He continued, “Unfortunately, the recent flooding has resulted in the recovery of eleven decomposed bodies, and we are continuing our rescue efforts.”
Information from different police divisions such as Lamisula, Jere, GRA, Bulabulin, and Dandal in Maiduguri confirmed that the bodies were discovered between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on September 11 and 12, 2024.
In light of this tragic event, the Command is determined to mobilize all resources necessary for effective recovery and rescue operations in the affected regions.
