In Delta State, five individuals have been apprehended by the police for their involvement in the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman, during which they received a ransom of N7.9 million for her release.
The arrested individuals are identified as Dominic Uweru, also known as Ovwolo (48 years old), Isaac Oghenerukevwe, known as Plug (34 years old), Oviri Godstime (25 years old), Junior Sunday, and Efedeki Adjovo.
SP Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson, shared details in a release on September 17, 2024, highlighting the recovery of four homemade firearms, N450,000 in cash, and additional items from the suspects.
A specialized police unit from the Ughelli Area Command conducted the arrest at a brothel in Weu, within the Ughelli South Local Government Area.
“On September 12, 2024, at approximately 1:30 AM, a police squad, responding to credible information, raided a brothel that also served as a criminal hideout in Ewu, leading to the arrest of five suspects: Dominic Uweru, Oviri Godstime, Isaac Oghenerukevwe, Junior Sunday, and Efedeki Adjovo,” the statement detailed.
“The operation resulted in the seizure of one single-barrel gun, three handmade short guns, and cash totaling N450,000, along with a Moniepoint POS machine, an OPAY POS machine, and packets of suspected Indian hemp.”
“The suspects admitted to participating in various robbery and kidnapping cases in Ughelli and nearby areas, including the abduction of the 70-year-old woman on September 8, 2024, from whom they demanded a ransom of N7.9 million, which was collected by September 10, 2024, prior to her release. Investigations are currently ongoing while the suspects remain in custody.”
