Ellen DeGeneres, a cherished figure in television and acting, recently appeared in a Netflix special that took an unexpected turn with a surprising announcement.
In her new comedy special, Ellen revealed her diagnoses of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), among other health challenges she is currently facing.
On the special, Ellen humorously reflected on her OCD diagnosis from a therapist, sharing, “I thought having everything in order meant I had OCD. I had no idea what it truly involved.” She mentioned that her upbringing in Christian Science prevented discussions about illnesses or disorders.
A blend of humor and reality
At the age of 66, Ellen continues to embrace her comedic side despite her ongoing health struggles. The Netflix show, titled ‘For Your Approval,’ addressed her experiences in therapy, particularly regarding the fallout from allegations of a toxic workplace on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
While her jokes elicited laughter, they also conveyed surprising truths that left audiences, both in the studio and at home, taken aback.
She joked, “Looking back, I realize my father exhibited OCD traits—he’d check the doorknob, faucet, and unplug appliances repeatedly before we left the house.” Fans wish her strength as she navigates these challenges.
