Kylian Mbappe’s Absence: What’s Keeping the Real Madrid Star Off the Field Against Atletico?

Where is Kylian Mbappe? Why Real Madrid star is not playing vs. Atletico Madrid image

Real Madrid is set to face Atletico Madrid in an important La Liga derby today, but they will be without their key forward Kylian Mbappe due to an injury.

Both teams have remained unbeaten since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, although Barcelona is currently at the top of the standings, even after their recent match against Osasuna ended their winning streak.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has received good news regarding Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Carvajal, who are both fit to play, but unfortunately, Mbappe will not be joining them.

Update on Kylian Mbappe’s Injury and Expected Return

Mbappe sustained a hamstring injury during Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Alaves on September 24.

While the club has not officially released a return date following medical examinations, it is anticipated that he will be out for approximately 2-3 weeks.

Ancelotti is not expected to expedite Mbappe’s return before the international break in October, meaning he will likely miss the next couple of matches following the derby.

Following the derby, Real Madrid will travel to Lille for a UEFA Champions League encounter on October 2, and then play Villarreal in another league match just three days later.

Before any decisions are made regarding Mbappe’s availability for the UEFA Nations League next month, Ancelotti is expected to consult with France’s national team coach Didier Deschamps about his condition.

The French team will face Israel in Budapest on October 10 followed by a match in Belgium just four days later.
