The Lagos State Police have confirmed a tragic event where a man reportedly killed his wife after a domestic dispute, according to spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin.

A 30-year-old man named Motunrayo Olaniyi stands accused of murdering his wife.

The incident took place in the Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where Motunrayo allegedly stabbed his wife, Olajumoke, a 25-year-old, during a heated argument.

Reports indicate that the confrontation escalated on Friday, leading to the fatal actions taken by Motunrayo.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, Motunrayo repeatedly stabbed Olajumoke before locking her in a room and setting it on fire. He also inflicted injuries on himself following the attack.

When police arrived, they managed to extinguish the flames and discovered Olajumoke’s body, which showed signs of multiple stab wounds.

In a statement, the police described how they received an emergency call on October 4, detailing a disturbance involving the couple in their residence.

The statement indicated that the husband fatally attacked his wife, then locked her inside the room before setting it ablaze, while also harming himself.

After the fire was put out, officers found the deceased with significant injuries. Motunrayo was taken to a hospital for treatment, from which he was later discharged and subsequently detained by the police.

Authorities have stated that initial investigations confirmed that Motunrayo inflicted stab wounds on his wife during the argument, and he sustained minor injuries himself.



“The body has been transferred to Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing,”
the report concluded.
