A Texas man has received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the horrific crime of r@pe and murder of his infant daughter.
Luis Luna, 27, from Houston, was found guilty of capital murder after a trial that lasted 10 days concerning the tragic death of his 8-month-old daughter, Savayah Mason, in August 2020, as reported by the Harris County Attorney’s Office on October 4.
Emergency services responded to a call on August 24, 2020, regarding a report that the baby had stopped breathing at Luna’s residence.
Despite efforts from medical personnel, the infant was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officials stated.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was suffocation, and the examination identified marks on her neck indicating restraint. Additionally, it confirmed that the baby had been subjected to sexual assault.
Assistant District Attorney Edward A. Appelbaum, who handled the case with his colleague Sara Delgado, described the crime as an incredibly violent act. He emphasized its extreme moral depravity, stating it represented “the worst kind of evil.”
“This child was unable to walk or speak, and she deserved to be protected, yet he betrayed her trust,” remarked Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.
