Firerose is expressing her feelings openly. In a heartfelt discussion, the 36-year-old musician opened up about her regrets regarding her ex-husband, Billy Ray Cyrus, elaborating on their intense courtship and rocky marriage.
“If I could rewind time, I’d advise my 22-year-old self to escape as soon as I met him,” Firerose stated in a conversation with Stellar magazine, reflecting on their initial meeting in 2010 on the set of Hannah Montana.
At that moment, Firerose was just beginning her music career, whereas Cyrus, 48, was still married to Tish. “My instinct told me, ‘What does he want?’ I should have set clearer boundaries.”
They didn’t ignite a romance until 2020, when they reconnected during the pandemic and worked together on a song. This collaboration evolved into a relationship and ultimately led to their marriage.
When Fairy Tales Turn Tragic
Firerose reveals that the charming aspirations Cyrus had, including naming their twins “Melody and Harmony,” never materialized. Instead, their seven-month marriage devolved into a troubling experience filled with emotional neglect and manipulation.
“At our wedding in October 2023, I was limited to just one guest-my hairstylist,” she recounted. “Reflecting on it now, I realize how abnormal that was. I rationalized his bizarre behavior as part of our life together.”
Firerose explained how Cyrus systematically isolated her from family and friends, instilling fear to keep her confined. “He would say things like, ‘As a Cyrus, you can’t go to public places or church, as people could track you and harm you.’ It may sound absurd, but that was my reality,” she disclosed.
Her vibrant spirit dimmed as she grew increasingly reclusive, putting on a brave front while feeling devastated within. “He emotionally cut me off, yet I convinced myself it was just his protective nature,” Firerose shared.
Firerose’s Journey to Healing
The artist further claimed that Cyrus held her accountable for his past disappointments. “Despite having so much, he felt so hollow. I thought my love might change him,” she expressed.
Having now escaped the toxic relationship, Firerose is committed to spreading awareness. “My experiences are more common than people might think,” she stated emphatically. “It was beyond my ability to fix-it was not about me. All I ever wished for was love and trust, but I see now that was naive.”
Despite the pain, Firerose is eager to move forward and cautions others to heed warning signs. Meanwhile, Cyrus’s team has not commented on the allegations.
