Three former police officers, Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip, have been charged in court after their dismissal by the Kwara State Police for the shooting death of Kwara State Polytechnic student, Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola.

According to a statement from the police spokesperson, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, released on October 18, the officers are facing serious charges, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide related to Ishola’s death.

The officers are currently in prison awaiting the next steps in the legal process.

Ishola, a second-year student in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, was reportedly shot during a protest against fuel price increases in the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4, 2024.

The incident sparked significant outrage, prompting the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to move the investigation to the police headquarters in Abuja.
