Study abroad consultancy firms in Vietnam report that the University of Wollongong (UOW) has revised its admission criteria for Vietnamese applicants, starting from August 15, with no set end date.
As per the new guidelines, UOW and the University of Wollongong College (UOWC) will not process applications from students residing in five designated high-risk provinces: Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Hai Duong. For all other provinces, except Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, applicants must still undergo the Genuine Student (GS) evaluation and submit further financial paperwork.
Additionally, students from regions beyond these five high-risk provinces must comply with the GS assessment standards and provide necessary financial documentation to receive an offer letter.
The UOW and UOWC also made it clear that they will not provide English language pathway programs that are linked with primary courses for Vietnamese students, with the exception of those from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.
The GS assessments will commence only six months prior to the course start date or once students receive a conditional offer, pending the submission of their final year 12 transcripts or university degrees.
For students awaiting English proficiency test results like IELTS or PTE, the GS assessment will only take place once the required language standards are satisfied.
The University of Wollongong is currently ranked 162nd in the world and 12th in Australia, as per the QS World University Rankings 2024.
Additionally, in February 2024, the South Australian Department of Education announced a temporary halt on applications from students in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh for public school enrollment (grades 1-12).
