Geovany Quenda, a promising talent in Portuguese football, recently recounted a memorable yet awkward moment he had with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 17-year-old has been gaining attention at Sporting Lisbon and was left in awe when he encountered the iconic CR7 during a training session with the national team in September.
Unexpected Elevator Encounter with Ronaldo
Quenda, selected by coach Roberto Martinez for the Portugal national team, shared that his first meeting with Ronaldo happened in an elevator.
The young player, with little experience at the time, expressed that he was too shocked to articulate his thoughts. In an interview with Canal 11, he shared, “He was going up while I was coming down. When I pressed the button, he appeared. I felt a bit embarrassed, which is totally normal! I didn’t manage to say anything. He is a role model for all young aspiring footballers.”
Though the moment was uncomfortable, Quenda remains inspired by Ronaldo, referring to him as an ideal figure for young athletes. “He’s a benchmark for all those who aspire to be in football,” he remarked.
Receiving his national team call-up was a significant milestone for the young player. He expressed his joy regarding the news, stating, “I couldn’t believe it. I immediately called my father, who was thrilled and shared the good news with everyone.”
Having recently netted his first goal with Sporting, Quenda aspires to emulate Ronaldo’s success, aiming for remarkable achievements in his sporting journey.
At just 17, Quenda’s prospects look promising. This unique experience with Ronaldo will surely remain a cherished memory as he pursues his football ambitions.
