Unconventional Insights into Patrick Mahomes’ Father-Son Bond

Weird Things About Patrick Mahomes' Relationship With His Father

Patrick Mahomes shares a unique bond with his father, Patrick “Pat” Mahomes Sr. Both have athletic backgrounds, but their relationship hasn’t always been smooth. Pat, who played in MLB from 1992 to 2003, divorced Patrick’s mother, Randi Martin, in 2006. Randi shared that their life together was tough due to Pat’s baseball career, which contributed to their separation. The divorce affected young Patrick significantly, despite his parents maintaining a friendly dynamic post-split. They initially disagreed on Patrick’s choice of sports.

Pat had hopes that Patrick would follow in his footsteps. He even urged him to stop playing football during high school, believing Patrick should concentrate solely on baseball and basketball, the sports he thought would secure his son a college scholarship. Thankfully, Randi encouraged Patrick to continue with football.

Ultimately, Pat’s perceptions about Patrick’s career path were proven incorrect, and he later showed full support for Patrick’s journey with the Kansas City Chiefs. The two embraced emotionally following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory in February 2023. However, trouble struck soon after, as Pat faced serious legal issues before the next Super Bowl.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. faced arrest prior to the Super Bowl

In February, just days before Patrick’s Super Bowl appearance, Patrick Mahomes Sr. got arrested in Texas for driving while intoxicated (DWI). During the incident, he tried to explain his situation to the officers, saying his son was preparing for the Super Bowl. Pat has struggled with alcohol issues in the past, having faced similar charges both in 2018 and again in 1994. Additionally, in 2016, he was charged with public intoxication while attending one of Patrick’s games.

As Patrick geared up for the Super Bowl, he was asked about his father’s situation, responding he would keep the matter private and limited to family. Eventually, Pat pled guilty to the DWI charge in August, which resulted in five years of probation and some jail time starting October 23.

These events undoubtedly affected Patrick’s relationship with his father, creating additional strain between them.

Father’s Day reflections revealed underlying issues

Despite Pat making it to Las Vegas to witness Patrick’s Super Bowl win in February, there seemed to be some underlying tension. Notably, on Father’s Day in June, Patrick made no public remarks about his dad on social media, which stood out in contrast to previous years.

While Patrick remained silent, Pat still honored his son with a post on Instagram containing pictures of himself with Patrick’s children, but notably absent were pictures of him with Patrick. In past years, they celebrated Father’s Day warmly, with Patrick sharing heartfelt messages and Pat expressing pride in his son’s parenting.
