Who is Zack Snyder?

Zack Snyder is a Hollywood director with major blockbuster films under his belt. He started his career in 2004 with Dawn of the Dead, and went on to direct films like 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch

In 2013, Snyder kicked off the most recent phase of the DCEU with Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Superman. After that, he directed the sequels, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. He also worked on other films in the DCEU, including Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman

What is the Snyder cut of ‘Justice League’?

In May 2017, while Snyder was working on Justice League, he was hit by a major family tragedy. When his daughter, Autumn Snyder, tragically took her own life, the director removed himself from the project to spend time with his family.

Warner Bros. hired Avengers director Joss Whedon to complete the film. And it ended up featuring a number of reshoots and CGI effects fans weren’t happy about. After Justice League premiered in Nov. 2017, fans demanded the Snyder version be released, and they gave birth to the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.

In 2019, on the movie’s two-year anniversary, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck shared the hashtag on their social media pages. When Snyder retweeted them, he sent fans into a frenzy of speculation about his version and when it would be released.

Will the Zack Snyder version of ‘Justice League’ come to HBO Max?

Since then, Snyder has dropped hints that he’s working on his cut of Justice League. In early 2020, he hosted an online competition on Vero for fans to create posters for the film.

He then posted a picture of the prize — a movie slate with a handwritten note on the back. The message stated that the slate could be used in the “unlikely and purely speculative event” that any “additional photography for the motion picture known as Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is needed.

In a March 29 Batman vs. Superman watch party on Vero, the director teased fans once again. “You know what, I think they should someday make a sequel to this movie someday,” he said at the end of the live Vero event. “That would be amazing. That would really be something else. Want to know what happens to these guys, I mean, don’t they eventually., I don’t know, form some…”

With Snyder again teasing the release of his cut, fans are speculating it could come to HBO’s new streaming service. HBO Max is scheduled to go live in May. So, if Snyder completes his rumored post-production, there is a chance fans could see it come to the streamer.

But of course, this is all still speculation. Neither Warner Bros.or Snyder has confirmed this version of the film is in the works. For now, fans will just have to sit tight and keep an eye on Snyder’s Vero page for more updates.
