Arsenal’s skipper Martin Odegaard has opted out of representing Norway in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches this month.
Having recently made his comeback after a significant ankle injury, the 25-year-old midfielder shared that he has not fully regained his physical condition and will focus on recovery to prevent any setbacks.
This choice follows Odegaard’s first complete match since August, where he assisted Gabriel Martinelli in Arsenal’s 1-1 tie against Chelsea.
Though he performed well, Odegaard acknowledged that he wasn’t completely fit. After consulting with Norway’s medical team, he decided to return to London for further rehabilitation rather than jeopardize his recovery by participating in the national team matches.
Martin Odegaard’s Statement
Odegaard expressed his regret for missing out on the chance to play for Norway, explaining, “I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process, and get my foot back in good shape.”
He highlighted the complexity of his ankle injury, according to Norway’s team physician, Ola Sand, and stressed the importance of being cautious as he works toward full fitness.

Norway’s coach Stale Solbakken concurred, agreeing that although Odegaard was keen to participate, it’s crucial for him to prioritize his long-term health.
Arsenal’s Ongoing Injury Issues
The absence of Odegaard adds to Arsenal’s mounting injury challenges, with other key players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice also sidelined after the Chelsea game.
Supporters of Arsenal and Norway are hopeful that Odegaard’s dedicated rehabilitation will lead to a strong return when he is ready to play again.
