The NDLEA’s Significant Drug Seizure in Kano
In October, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully confiscated 709.979 kilograms of illegal drugs in Kano state.
This information was shared by the agency’s Kano Command spokesperson, ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to the State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, a total of 129 male suspects were apprehended during this operation.
Of the seized drugs, 309.991 kg was identified as cannabis sativa, while 394.835 kg consisted of various psychotropic substances. This included 741,600 tablets of Tramadol, 2.789 kg of pregabalin, and 0.027 kg of methamphetamine among others.
During this period, the agency achieved 22 convictions, emphasizing that these legal outcomes act as a warning to those engaging in drug-related offenses and highlight the NDLEA’s commitment to law enforcement.
Idris-Ahmad noted that the apprehended individuals have been evaluated, with suitable cases forwarded for prosecution, while others have been directed to counseling services for treatment and support.
The commander expressed appreciation for the ongoing encouragement from the NDLEA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), which he credited for the agency’s successes.
He also acknowledged the support of the Kano State Government and collaborative partners in the fight against drug misuse.
Idris-Ahmad reiterated the command’s commitment to working diligently with various stakeholders to combat drug trafficking and raise awareness about the risks of drug abuse.
He urged the public to participate in addressing drug issues by reporting any suspicious activities to the agency via the hotline “0800 1020 3040.”
“Together, we can create a healthier and safer community,” he concluded.
