Man City Sets Stipulations for Erling Haaland’s Record-Breaking Contract Proposal

Manchester City is making significant efforts to renew Erling Haaland’s contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Since transferring from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has been phenomenal for Pep Guardiola’s team.

In his inaugural season, he scored 52 goals in 53 matches, helping City achieve the club’s first treble, retaining the Premier League title and winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time.

His goal-scoring prowess remains strong, with another EFL title achieved in 2024, bringing his score to 105 goals across 114 appearances for City.

The striker’s value to the team is undeniable, but the club is aware of rising transfer interest in the Norwegian star, whose contract runs until the conclusion of the 2026/27 season.

Even though there isn’t an immediate threat of him departing, City wants to secure their star forward, reportedly ready to enhance his salary significantly.

According to the Daily Mirror, the club is prepared to raise Haaland’s weekly earnings from £375,000 ($473,000) to an impressive £500,000 ($631,000) and extend his contract until 2029.

This would elevate Haaland above Kevin De Bruyne, who makes roughly £400,000 ($505,000) weekly, making him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

However, while City is ready to make a substantial financial commitment to Haaland, they also have a specific demand during negotiations.

Haaland’s Release Clause Situation

The current £150m ($189m) release clause that exists in Haaland’s contract remains a concern for City, as included in his transfer from Dortmund. His representatives seem keen on keeping this option active.

City is believed to be seeking the removal of this clause in exchange for a pay raise, but an alternative negotiation could involve increasing it to £200m ($252m), which might be acceptable for all parties involved as discussions progress.
