Vietnam Aims to Be a Global Aviation Powerhouse with Embraer’s Collaboration

Prime Minister invites Embraer to help Vietnam become a global aviation hub

Prime Minister’s Meeting with Embraer at G20 Summit

On November 17, while attending the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Jose Serrador, the Global Vice President of Embraer Aerospace Corporation.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Embraer’s accomplishments and recalled his visit to the firm in September of the previous year. He expressed intentions to strengthen the collaboration between Embraer and Vietnam.

Jose Serrador pointed out that civil aviation is a major area for cooperation between Embraer and Vietnam. He mentioned a new funding initiative by Brazil’s Development Bank aimed at enhancing civil aviation, providing a strong basis for expanding joint efforts.

Serrador also spoke about Embraer’s plans to enhance key flight routes, specifically the important Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi-Con Dao routes, which already utilize Embraer aircraft. He showed interest in increasing Embraer’s operations in Vietnam, particularly in maintenance and training, to elevate Vietnam’s civil aviation capabilities, and expressed interest in pursuing defense trade with Vietnam.

Prime Minister Chinh endorsed Embraer’s proposals, agreeing to the need for collaboration in both civil aviation and defense sectors. He suggested a gradual approach to collaboration, stating, “No matter how far, if we travel, we will reach; no matter how close, without moving, we will not arrive.”

He noted the deepening ties between Vietnam and Brazil, mentioning that both nations are in the process of enhancing their bilateral relations. Since his previous visit, trade has surged, indicating a solid foundation for increased trade and investment cooperation, particularly with Embraer.

The Prime Minister discussed Vietnam’s strategic goals of utilizing its space, marine, and underground resources effectively.

Positioned centrally in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has a well-developed aviation network that connects to the region’s most active economies, acting as a potential global aviation hub.

Chinh stressed the necessity of partnering with leading firms like Embraer to realize this vision, inviting the company to contribute through consultations and research to develop Vietnam’s aviation capabilities.

He pointed out that even countries in less advantageous geographical positions, like the Middle East, have succeeded in becoming global aviation centers, asserting that Vietnam can achieve similar success.

Additionally, he suggested that Embraer should consider setting up aircraft maintenance and warranty facilities in Vietnam and assist in establishing a pilot training center.

The Prime Minister also encouraged Embraer to expand its partnerships with Vietnamese airlines and visit Vietnam for cooperative ventures, emphasizing the pivotal role of aviation in enhancing bilateral relations.
