Donald Trump has surpassed Taylor Swift in followers on X.com, which was formerly known as Twitter, as the Republican outpaces the pop star in the lead-up to the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
The 78-year-old Trump’s follower count has hit 94,754,047 on the platform owned by Elon Musk, narrowly ahead of Swift’s 94,731,484 by a margin of 22,563. This could be interpreted as a minor yet notable win against a political opponent.
This follower count highlights Trump’s popularity in modern times. Notably, Swift’s current tour has grossed over a billion dollars and has been sold out for the past 18 months, indicating widespread interest in Trump’s statements.
However, Swift doesn’t seem to share that interest. Following a debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, she publicly backed the Democrats, stating, “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
In response, Trump took to Truth Social to express his dislike for the pop singer, claiming that her support for his opponent would negatively impact her finances “in the marketplace.”
Trump’s Return to Twitter
Donald Trump’s account on Twitter was restored by Elon Musk on November 19, 2022, after Musk conducted a public poll regarding Trump’s reinstatement, although it took some time for him to start posting again.
Trump had been banned from the platform following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots because pre-Musk Twitter concluded that his tweets related to the events violated their policies against glorifying violence.
They feared his comments could incite further unrest, particularly in light of his refusal to accept the 2020 election results and his absence from President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
