Deadly Attack in Benue Community
Tragedy struck Azege settlement in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, where thirteen people lost their lives due to an assault by armed suspected herdsmen.
This violent encounter unfolded at around 7 a.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The onslaught has resulted in multiple fatalities, arson incidents, and widespread devastation of local farms and harvests.
Azege is known as the home of Hon. Benjamin Uzenda, the former Caretaker Chairman for Logo Local Government.
Hon. Uzenda reported to The Nation that herdsmen had made previous attempts to take control of Azege within the last two months.
“The attackers were equipped with advanced weaponry, opening fire at residents who were preparing for church services,” stated Hon. Uzenda.
“It appears these assaults were well-coordinated, as they targeted defenseless villagers, fatally shooting individuals and harming women and children.”
“The assailants operated from within residential buildings, escaping before security forces arrived.”
In the aftermath, many locals have fled the area, fearing further violence.
Azege is located just a half-hour’s drive from Ayilamo, which has also faced numerous violent attacks and murders.
Reportedly, some of the injured were taken to the Ayilamo Primary Health Care for medical attention.
The Council Chairman, Hon. Clement, is said to have planned a visit to the site of the violence.
