Wendy Williams’ health has taken a serious downturn as she continues to grapple with dementia and aphasia.
The 60-year-old former host of “The Wendy Williams Show” is now facing early-onset dementia and aphasia, prompting her attorneys to announce that she is “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.“
Recent court filings acquired by USA TODAY reveal that Sabrina Morrissey, Williams’ court-appointed guardian, submitted a memo earlier this month detailing this troubling diagnosis.
Morrissey’s Legal Actions on Behalf of Williams
Morrissey has been actively pursuing legal actions against A&E Television Networks, Lifetime Entertainment Services, and other entities linked to the docuseries “Where is Wendy Williams?“, which debuted in February 2023.
This series highlighted Williams‘ sudden departure from public life, causing significant controversy. In a letter dated November 12, Morrissey alleges that the defendants “exploited (Williams) in an exceptionally cruel manner for their financial advantage.”
Even with her health issues, Williams retains her status as an “acclaimed entertainer” but has sadly been struck by early-onset dementia, as mentioned in the legal documents.
In the same memo, Morrissey‘s legal team sought to have Williams‘ personal details removed from a joint status letter regarding a guardianship issue initiated by Williams’ bank, Wells Fargo, in January 2022.
This guardianship was established to safeguard the TV personality’s financial interests, and the request to redact her information was subsequently accepted. Morrissey contends that the proposed alterations are “narrowly drawn” and do not compromise the public’s grasp of the essential facts and legal matters in this case.
The Transformative Impact of Illness on Wendy Williams
In February 2023, Williams’ team affirmed that she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. They stated that Williams is capable of “doing many things for herself” and has been actively involved in choosing her care team.
Moreover, Williams was listed as the executive producer of “Where is Wendy Williams?” despite claims that she was not in a state to agree to being featured in the project.
Additionally, Morrissey has filed for the profits from the docuseries to be directed to Williams, citing that she will need “substantial funds to secure proper medical care and supervision for the rest of her life.”
