Travis Kelce, a prominent player for the Kansas City Chiefs, is enhancing security at his $6 million residence after a theft that resulted in over $100,000 in lost valuables, including prized NFL collectibles. This robbery, which also affected his teammate Patrick Mahomes, has been associated with an international crime syndicate.
The incident at Kelce’s mansion in Leawood, Kansas, took place last month, with robbers reportedly visiting the property for no longer than 15 minutes. Among the stolen belongings were Kelce’s first Super Bowl jersey, expensive clothing, jewelry, and $20,000 in cash.
Specific Targeting
The thieves, who are believed to disguise themselves as delivery personnel or joggers to identify their targets, targeted the residences of Kelce and Mahomes just hours apart. Mahomes and his spouse, Brittany, suffered losses of jewelry and high-end handbags during the break-in.
One of Kelce’s valuable watches was found later in Providence, Rhode Island, more than 1,400 miles from the scene, highlighting the extensive reach of the criminal organization.
The FBI has now joined the investigation, prompting elite athletes nationwide to exercise caution.
A source familiar with Kelce’s situation disclosed that he is “very upset” about the intrusion and is implementing measures to enhance his security.
“Travis plans to install a new alarm system to avoid becoming a target for further burglaries, especially as he is renovating his house and will be storing more of Taylor’s belongings there,” the insider noted.
Kelce is particularly heartbroken over the theft of his first Super Bowl jersey, which he wore during the Chiefs‘ 2020 championship against the San Francisco 49ers.
“That initial Super Bowl jersey means a lot to him,” the insider added.
The robbery’s timing, occurring just before the Chiefs faced the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, indicates that thieves may be specifically targeting athletes’ homes during game times.
