Donna Kelce, the cherished mother of NFL athletes Travis and Jason Kelce, is set to showcase her enthusiastic spirit in the upcoming film Hallmark’s Holiday Touchdown: AChiefs Love Story, which will air on November 30. In the film, she plays a fictional version of herself, adorned in costumes that reflect her pride for her sons while also nodding to Travis‘ girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
Costume designer Keith Nielsen shared insights into Donna’s costumes, which combine items from her personal wardrobe with specially crafted pieces for this production. The fashion choices subtly underline her roles as both a dedicated mother and a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
A notable item is the half-and-half jersey Donna famously showcased at last year’s Super Bowl to root for both Travis and Jason. Additionally, Nielsen created a special necklace for her, featuring the initials “J” and “T,” representing her sons Jason and Travis.
Wardrobe with significance
“She loves her bling,” Nielsen stated. “That necklace is unique; it’s subtle yet very personal.”
Fans of Swift may recognize a bracelet worn by Donna in the film. This piece, which draws inspiration from Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department, has become another cherished accessory for her in real life.
Chiefs pride and shiny sneakers
No themed film from Kansas City would be complete without a reference to The Wizard of Oz. Thus, Nielsen designed a pair of custom red sparkly sneakers for Donna, which may be understated on camera but pay tribute to Kansas‘ ties to the renowned movie.
Donna also features a signed No. 87 Chiefs jersey to honor Travis, paired with a chic black sweater for a festive touch. While much of Donna’s genuine Chiefs attire made it to the screen, Nielsen aimed to refine her character’s on-screen appeal with additional styles.
A holiday movie to catch
Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is set to bring festive joy, football enthusiasm, and a sprinkle of familial love to the Hallmark Channel this season. Donna Kelce’s heartfelt wardrobe selections enhance the film’s authenticity and charm, making her screen debut a genuine homage to her special role as a football mom and pop culture figure. Be sure to catch the premiere on November 30!
